How can you do your part?

Sustainability Tips:
Here are some tips for becoming more carbon friendly in daily routines.

When out and about:
•Keep recycled trash clean: If materials that can be recycled are soiled with food or other materials, recycling centers may not be able to recycle them. Don't put food and non-recyclable materials in the recycling bin!
•Buy less waste: Every piece of packaging you buy eventually ends up in the trash. Minimize the amount of packaging on the products you buy. For example, avoid buying individually wrapped fruits. Much of the waste that ends up in landfills is packaging waste that is hard to recycle or compost.

At Home:
•Use CFLs: Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) save you money and are good for the environment. CFL's cost more than regular light bulbs, but they can last ten times as long as ordinary bulbs.
•Fix leaks at home: Fix those leaking and dripping faucets as soon as possible. Leaking pipes, toilets and faucets waste water fast! A dripping faucet can waste up to 80 liters of water per day, and a toilet leak can waste up to 800 liters every day.
•Turn off your electronics: Turn off lights and electronics when not in use. If everyone in China wasted one hour of use of an ordinary light bulb, enough electricity to power 40,000 homes in Beijing for a year would be wasted. For even more energy savings, unplug your DVD player, speakers, and other appliances when not in.

At Work:
•Turn the AC up: Join the 26 Degree Campaign. All office buildings should put there air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius minimum. In one business week, that will save enough power to supply 30,000 city families for an entire month.
•Save paper: Don't abuse your office's free printing. Avoid copying when possible and use two-sided printing when you do print. Get others in the office to do the same. You¡¯ll save paper and electricity. Reuse printed paper when possible, and recycle in the end.
